The Transbay Joint Powers Authority, delivering the Downtown Rail Extension (DTX), also known as The Portal, through its subcontractor, Bess (Bess) Testlab, Inc., will be potholing approximately 30 utilities (i.e. domestic water, sewer, power, telecon/data, etc) on the street and sidewalk in three different areas along Townsend Street (between Third to Seventh streets) to obtain important utility information to inform the DTX project. Bess will pothole one utility at a time. As the utility is exposed and data is collected, work crews will backfill and cover the exposed potholes with a temporary cold-patch. Once all utility potholing is complete, a restoration work crew will apply the final pavement hot patch to seal the area.
The work will occur from Monday, October 16 to Friday, November 3, 2023, with expected hours of operations from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. – 5 a.m., Monday – Friday from Third to Seventh streets on Townsend Street (see document for details).
